Not Another Bill
The book “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” is a guide book for women on how to be good girlfriends and wives.
Cleverly the book’s author – a man - also included the occasional tip for men on how to keep their other halves happy, so as to make his book appear like less of an instruction manual for women and more of a “relationship guide” for couples.
Author John Gray suggests, amongst other things, that men value solutions whereas women do not; men only like to converse when they feel that there is a point to a conversation, whereas women enjoy talking for its own sake; men talk in literal terms, whereas women employ artistic licence and dramatic vocabulary in order to express their feelings.
He suggests that women should ask for help without making it sound like a demand, they should appreciate the help they receive even though it needed to be requested first, and they should allow a man the freedom to do things in a way and at a time that works for him.
So far, so good.
One of the few pieces of advice included for men concerns the way in which couples “keep score” in their relationship: women, by all accounts, like to regularly receive many small acts of love.
