Antico
Antico | Restaurant Bermondsey Street
It was in 1995 that the legal loophole of “marché ouvert”, which allowed illegally-obtained goods to be legitimately resold at the Bermondsey Square antiques market, was finally removed from English statute law.
In spite of this the Bermondsey Square antiques market has quietly continued to trade every Friday morning, as it has done since 1948 (and, in Islington, many years prior to that).
Located in a newly refurbished antiques warehouse just opposite the Square on Bermondsey Street, tipping its hat to the history of the area and officially launching tomorrow: Antico.
We’ve reserved you a table for six at Antico, which comes complete with everything you could ever need for the perfect dinner: five of your friends; excellent food and wine; great music; that “new restaurant” buzz; highly attentive staff……..and no bill.
The first restaurant from Nick Crispini, Antico serves seasonal Italian cuisine with a modern twist. The antipasti and spuntini include chilli salt squid fritti, sautéed wild mushrooms with taleggio bruschetta and Tuscan sausage with polenta. For mains think slow roasted pork shoulder tortelloni, chestnut and ricotta ravioli with roasted almonds and an oversized bistecca Fiorentina.
With a basement cocktail bar perfect for pre and/or post-dinner tomfoolery, Antico is a welcome addition to a street that now bustles with great restaurants – from Village East and Pizarro to the Garrison and Zucca (Decanter’s newly-crowned restaurant of 2011).
