The best romantic restaurants in London aren’t, as you doubtlessly already knew, restaurants that try to be romantic.

They’re usually the restaurants that try the least.

They’re the dimly-lit, intimate, and edgy places that successfully combine great lighting, good music and a buzzy ambience: places that get you excited as soon as you walk through the door.  

Whether your date’s there or not.

So by “best romantic restaurants in London” we really mean “restaurants in London most likely to subconsciously encourage your guest to find you even more attractive than they already do”.

Impossible, we know. 

Nevertheless, our favourites are (in order of preference):

Mishkin’s A "kind of Jewish Deli with Cocktails": think cocktails from the '40s, latkes and knish and melted cheese / pastrami sandwiches on toasted rye.

Pizarro Lower East Side-vibe + seasonal Spanish fare = this place.

Dean Street Townhouse Old school: mince and potatoes, fish and chips, jam roly poly and rhubarb crumble.  If the chef’s not somebody’s Mum, he ought to be.

Da Polpo The meatballs and cicheti, the distressed walls, the “lived in” feel and the hip, tattooed staff: classic Norman.
