da Polpo
Da Polpo | Covent Garden
We're fans of Russell Norman here: no secret about that.
Given the success of his Venetian bacari in Soho (Polpo and Polpetto), the opening of Spuntino in 2011 – an intimate venue inspired by down-town New York and nineteenth century machine-age Brooklyn - was eagerly anticipated.
And it didn’t disappoint.
10 weeks later, da Polpo opened up.
Much to our surprise, and everyone else's, that didn't disappoint either.
Located on Maiden Lane in Covent Garden, and set out over two floors, da Polpo shares a few things in common with a couple of Norman's other restaurants: the “Italian Tapas” dishes (from pizzettas and salads to meatballs and cicheti); the distressed walls; the tiled floors; the bar stool dining; the “lived in” feel and the hip, tattooed staff.
You'll feel as though you’ve been here before, and enjoyed every minute of it.
Filled with a golden hue emanating from the skylight above the bar, da Polpo - although larger and more airy than Norman’s other venues – is as intimate as each of the others.
While the option to perch at the bar is there, the welcome addition of several tables makes dining with friends infinitely more appealing. In addition this is a place that you can book, and it's always a good idea to do so.
