The Hawksmoor Spitalfields Bar
The Hawksmoor Spitalfields Bar | Bar
This evening an elite crop of London's most influential and distinguished media darlings will be granted, after weeks of hype and dribbling anticipation, the very first look at the new Hawksmoor Spitalfields Bar - a subterranean cocktail den and restaurant in Spitalfields.
Only they won’t actually be getting the first look, as we already bagsied that.
And we booked you a table for next week while we were there.
Imagine a quintessentially clandestine, underground speakeasy: the conspiratorial whisperings, the prohibition-era soundtrack, the hushed tones and the quietly sipped drinks.
The Hawksmoor Spitalfields Bar is nothing like that.
You’ll head here (on those regular occasions that you’re feeling particularly playful and mischievous) in search of fun: great music, big burgers and potent cocktails.
The look: glazed white tiles; low ceilings and lower lighting; leather banquettes bordering large copper-rimmed tables in deep, candlelit alcoves.
The cocktails: Shaky Pete’s Ginger Brew; Green & Red Margaritas (named in loving memory of The Dynamic Duo’s old Mexican cantina); Nuclear Banana Daiquiris; Marmalade Cocktails, and a regularly-changing menu of the Hawksmoor Bar’s top five “Desert Island Drinks”.
The steaks are too high (literally, they're on the floor above) to be served downstairs*, so the food menu’s instead focused on avoiding the need for cutlery: cheeseburgers and Umami burgers; hot dogs and chilli cheese dogs; Short-Rib French dip and Bermondsey Fryer sandwiches, chicken wings and triple-cooked chips.
*A rare steak joke: apologies.
