Madame Pigg x Islington Arts Club

NOTE: This pop-up has now ended. But you can find lots of other great Sunday roast spots in London, or check out these excellent Islington restaurants.

Madame Pigg was once a lovely little neighbourhood restaurant in Dalston, named after chef Adam Hardiman’s grandmother. In a nice way, he promises. Apparently it was her maiden name.

Hardiman was the owner, operator, and kitchen commander, and the entire place revolved around him. He’s experienced, having worked at places like St. John and The Dartmouth Arms, he’s generous to a fault (literally, he was giving to charity & feeding the homeless even when his restaurant was threatened with closure), and he’s brilliantly open and honest about his own struggles with his mental health. Basically, he was a top bloke, running a top place, and regulars were heartbroken when Madame Pigg finally had to close its doors.

So, time for a little good news: Madame Pigg is back.

Madame Pigg will be the first kitchen residency for a brand new venue in Islington, called Islington Arts Club. Opening this November, it’ll be taking the place of Upper Street’s old craft beer pub, The Library (up by Highbury Corner). There’s not a lot we know about the place so far, other than a loose promise of dancing, and that they’re using a similar handwritten scrawl to, er, Sessions Arts Club. So one might conclude that they’re either related in some way, or are juuust flirting with copyright infringement. There are, however, menu details for the Madame Pigg residency, which will be running every weekend until mid-December – so yes, that means the return of MP’s Sunday lunch.

After years spent perfecting them, Madame Pigg gained a rep for serving up some of the best Sunday roasts in London, and they’ll be back every week here. You’ll find cloud-like Yorkies, pigs in blankets, cauliflower & truffle cheese, and, going with them, some perfectly roasted beef, porchetta, a whole chicken or a chestnut & butternut squash wellington for the veggies. And to start, a little crispy pork with apple sauce if you fancy it.

And yes. You do fancy it.

NOTE: Madame Pigg will be in residence at Islington Arts Club every weekend from 4th November – 17th December 2023. You can see the menu HERE, or make a booking by emailing the date, time, number of guests and your name & phone number to [email protected]
