Is it just us or is there something hugely satisfying about a good spring clean? This is a time of year for decluttering, descaling, dusting and doing DIY to a borderline-manic degree.

Founded in 2012, Sonsoles Print Studio is an open-access screen-printing studio in Peckham. The studio welcomes people of all artistic levels and the emphasis is less about learning and more about pulling up your sleeves, getting involved and sharing in the creative process.
Sonsoles Print Studio was set up in 2012 by Sonsoles (Soni) Marquez, who studied Fine Art Printmaking at the Royal College of Art. Sonsoles opened the studio after she had difficulty finding an affordable space for her artistic practice and with the space, she aims to create a place that’s accessible to all, offering annual memberships and pay-as-you-go sessions to help make screen-printing a more long-term practice for people and without the pressure of high monthly fees.
The particular workshop available to Nudge Members is designed for absolute beginners or those needing a little refresher. So whether you’re completely new to screen-printing or curious to learn more, this is for you. There’s never any more than 10 people in a group too, so everyone can be as hands on as possible.
During the course, you’ll be guided through crafting designs, from hand-cut stencils, drawing or mark-making to preparing screens and printing with water based inks, eventually producing your very own limited edition piece.
The class covers four steps:
- Introduction to screen printing techniques
- Creating and exposing handmade stencils
- Printing with water-based inks
- Producing a 1 colour, A4 size limited edition of 4 prints of 1 design on paper.
Then all that’s left for you to do is frame and hang your print in your spangling clean home.
