Making your own cocktails.
It’s stirring stuff.
And such a monumental journey should only be undertaken with the guidance of the best. Preferably, if we’re being picky, in a 19th century former police station that’s been kitted out as a tri-level temple to fine liquors, rare bottlings, and excellent cocktails.
And today, you’re going to be picky.
So welcome to TT Liquor, the artfully dilapidated cocktail bar-meets-hooch-store-meets-mixology-academy, tucked away somewhat inconspicuously on Shoreditch’s Kingsland Road. Today, however, you’re not concerned with the towering cabinets of rare and exotic drinks out front, nor the atmospheric drinking vaults converted from jail cells downstairs. Instead, you’ll be heading straight through to the workshop perched at the back of the building, boasting a set of state-of-the-art, custom-made, personal bar stations.
The classes come in four flavours: the classic masterclass; the molecular classes; the gin classics; and the rum class. You’ll start of each one with a welcome cocktail to get things going. You’ll then get a little backgrounding in the fundamentals of bar techniques, and the underlying concepts of mixology. Techniques & concepts which you’ll use to make (and drink) three full-size cocktails with your own fully stocked bar.
The whole class wraps up with a fierce cocktail competition, where you’ll be let loose on their stock of fruit, booze, and unusual extracts (the molecular class, for instance, will include the likes of Earl Grey mist and dry ice) to create a freestyle masterpiece of your own – which, should it get the seal of approval, might just make it onto the bar menu as a guest drink.
Just to shake things up.
NOTE: TT Liquor masterclasses take place on Fridays & Saturdays – or you can hire the whole place out for a big group class. They cost £70pp and include 5 full-sized cocktails – you can find out more, and book, HERE.
