Whistle Punks | Axe Throwing in London

Last Updated: March 2019

Once in a while it’s nice to do something different.

Like competitive axe throwing.

The first of its kind in the country, Whistle Punks first sprang up in East London. Which is a fact that likely won’t surprise you quite as much as the realisation that the owners actually managed to get insurance for this perilous enterprise in the first place.

Now it’s settled down in Vauxhall, and the concept remains relatively straightforward.

You throw axes.

On arrival you’ll be given a safety briefing and a lesson in axe throwing techniques, before being placed into one of two teams (who will go on to compete against each other in a tournament, hurling hatchets at a wooden, target-daubed backboard at the end of the range). It’s a little bit like playing darts, with the most obvious difference – other than the size of the darts – being that booze and axe throwing do not go well together.

Which is why there’s no bar here…

however we can only assume that – after you’ve finished – you and your friends are going to want to find a nice restaurant or bar in which to reflect on the life choices that ultimately culminated in you hurling axes at a wooden board in South London. Which is precisely why we recommend toddling across the river to the Clarendon Cocktail Cellar in Pimlico, or towards the newest Hawksmoor branch in Borough

…if you fancy a little post-tomahawk steak.

NOTE: Bookings for Whistle Punks can be made online HERE, and are taken for up to 15 people per session.
