East London is brunch’s spiritual home.
Something which may, or may not, have something to do with the number of great bars in the area which might necessitate a whole load of carbs – and a little hair of the dog – the morning after.
It started out with the Aussie coffee houses, and now you can score a great brunch all over East London, from Middle Eastern mezze to Singaporean toast, Sri Lankan spreads, and the good ol’ Full English.
Behold, The Nudge’s pick of the best brunches in East London:
–
Brunswick East | Dalston & Hackney Downs
Brunch is served daily at this East London stalwart, named after a suburb in Melbourne. But their inspiration comes from all over – you’ll find chilli poached eggs with garlic yoghurt; kimchi pancakes; a grown-up fry-up; and eggy buns with peanut chilli oil on the menu. And the relaxed outdoor terrace is a nice slice of Antipodean culture, too.

Corrochio’s | Dalston
The newly improved Corrochio’s hasn’t just expanded in space, but in time too. Now open every weekend from 12pm, their Mexican brunch is a force to be reckoned with: we’re talking chilaquiles, gorditas, tortas ahogadas (Guadalajara-style sandwiches) and café de olla (cinnamon-laced Mexican coffee).

Ozone | Old Street, Bethnal Green
An all day Antipodean brunch joint that takes its coffee seriously (they roast the stuff in-house, and supply literally hundreds of other coffee shops and restaurants around the world). And to go with it? How does eggs benny on bubble & squeak cakes; kimchi fritters with wild garlic; or banana bread with cultured butter sound…

Roe | Canary Wharf
Look – we agree. Going to Canary Wharf on a weekend is the move of either an extreme workaholic, or a lost tourist. But that was before the Fallow team opened their restaurant Roe on the waterside here in Wood Wharf, singlehandedly creating an attraction worth travelling for at any time or day of the week. And we’d recommend making your first visit for brunch, almost solely because of these outrageous croissant-sandwiched royales, which come filled with the likes of crispy grilled portobello mushroom; sausage patty with bacon; and goat’s cheese with roasted vegetables. They’re insanely good.

An instant hit since opening on Broadway Market at the end of 2023, this place was going to open for brunch Sune or later.
