Black Bream

NOTE: Black Bream has very sadly now closed.

British tapas.

It’s not just the name you give it when someone rips open a packet of crisps, and lays it out flat at the pub to share.

Because as the folks at Parsons Green’s small plate stunner Black Bream are demonstrating, it is in fact considerably better than that.

Coming to us from a team whose talents have seen them working at places like The Ivy, J Sheekey, and Milk & Honey, BB occupies a neat sleeve space on the New King’s Road, just off Parsons Green. Inside there’s a sleek mix of neon & Art Deco, and you’ll find yourself pleasantly surprised by long row of booths, which gloriously makes up the majority of the seating.

THE TAPAS

The menu leans heavily towards seafood, with the land-based options coming (for the most part) in the form of red meat, and making for a particularly satisfying combination (however difficult it is to match a bottle of wine to).

Ruthlessly borrowing from any & all culinary traditions they like, you’ll find everything from tandoori tiger prawns & mint raitha; to South Coast crab thermidor & brioche toast; to a hefty lobster & langoustine burger. Their signature Black Bream ceviche comes with a little pink grapefruit to cut through the fish, and their Galacian roasted octopus is decorated with almonds. Those red meat dishes, meanwhile, include a slow-cooked beef cheek number, and a seared fillet of venison with cavolo nero.

THE COCKTAILS

The cocktails include a Martini made with their house gin and some Padstow vermouth; a take on the espresso martini with 12yr old rum and a little cream, and an exceptional simple Sicilian Orange, which is just blood orange liquid mixed with a little sweet & sour.

Oh, and there are about 30+ bottles of wine on their list. So at least one of which should pair with whatever you’ve ordered…
