Brother Marcus

This is a story about Alex, Arthur and Tasos, three school friends who pooled together their skills to open Brother Marcus.

Long story short… it’s brilliant.

What began as a modest brunch-focussed eatery in Balham has since expanded to a four-strong restaurant empire, now comprising Brother Marcus Spitalfields, Angel, Borough Yards and South Kensington.

You’ll still come to Brother Marcus for the brunch, featuring – as it does – sweet potato & courgette fritters with turmeric yoghurt and a poached egg; smoky shakshuka with Merguez sausage and a generously portioned full vegan breakfast… but you should also stop by for the Eastern Mediterranean dishes that come onto the menu later in the day. Dishes like pan-fried cheese saganaki with black fig honey; BBQ’d pork skewers with hazelnut dukkha; and platters of fluffy pitta with house-made taramasalata, baba ghanoush and fennel tzatziki.

And then there’s the drinks – not only do they specialise in Greek wines, but there’s a whole slew of signature cocktails to pick from too, like the Aleppo Margarita (Quiquiriqui mezcal, lime juice, agave syrup & aged ouzo).

It’s ouzo good.
