Counter Vauxhall

Ah, Counter.

An all day, 60-metre long, 175 cover NY-style brasserie and bar in Vauxhall decorated with antique mirrors, custom-made lighting, reclaimed teak floors and lots (and lots) of brass fittings.

They have food. And by food we mean pulled pork stuffed French toast. And by pulled pork stuffed French toast we mean good pulled pork stuffed French toast. There’s also a range of snacks, small and large plates, sides and desserts; all of which include recipes sourced from the head chefs ‘work’ trip to New York’s Hells Kitchen district.

They also have drinks. And by drinks we mean French and American wines, a range of classic cocktails, craft beers and, most importantly, coffee by Allpress. Which means espresso. Which, long story short, actually means espresso martinis.

Once you’re full, and slightly tipsy but very much awake, head through the side door into BackCounter, Counter’s gay bar (serving up live jazz, show tune pianists, cabaret and drag queens late into the night).

Then, come the next morning, you’ll probably be needing a hearty breakfast.

Something like pulled pork-stuffed French toast, perhaps.
