First, Mark Jarvis brought us Anglo.

And now, Neo Bistro.

In fact, it seems the only thing he loves more than words ending with an ‘o’ is critical lavishment (of which, Anglo received a lot) because he’s snapped up Alex Harper, former Head Chef of the Michelin-starred Harwood Arms, to run his sophomore joint.

The place itself is hugging Oxford Street in north Mayfair, and mimics the modern stylings of Paris’s new breed of relaxed, deformalized bistros, or ‘neo bistros’ as the French call them. What does that mean? Well, it means that plush white walls abut bare brick ones, crystal decanters are placed on a distressed wood bar, and simple, nourishing food is given a modern twist.

That food will change with the seasons (with new specials going up on the chalkboard each day), but you can expect dishes like venison chorizo and fresh cheese with smoked potato; pigeon with green strawberries, spiced lentils and tarragon; or roast sea bass with mousseron mushrooms. Puddings, meanwhile, include chocolate tarts with malt ice cream, and Gariguette strawberries with lemon verbena.

The drinks include a fairly well-curated wine list of under-the-radar varieties & regions, available from just a fiver a glass; a cocktail list that leans heavily on the kitchen for ingredients; and a whole slew of London craft beers. Give them a try…

…you’ll be making your ‘o’ face.
