Soho Diner has unfortunately now closed down.
Soho Diner | Old Compton Street Restaurant
During this, a week in which frenzied anticipation envelops the London arrival of two large American burger chains (Shake Shack & Five Guys), there’s only one logical course of action open to you…
Go to neither of them.
Because let’s be honest –
A) There’ll be hundreds of each of them scattered across London before the year’s out, so you’ll likely stumble into one at some point anyway. And,
B) The only reason to be served food on a tray and drinks in paper cups by staff wearing baseball caps is if you have kids. Or if you’re drunk. Or both.
A better idea, if you’re in the mood for a burger (which you probably are now), would be to visit the kind of upscale American diner where waiters deliver honey-fried chicken and philly cheese steak sandwiches to your table on actual plates.
Somewhere, for example, like Soho Diner… which opens today.
Brought to you by Soho House, it’s the sort of place you’ll want to go whenever you find yourself in central London hunting for well-priced flat iron chicken with mac & cheese; hot dogs and brownies; cobb salads, burgers and shakes or just a few cocktails (available, here, on tap) in the sort of dimly-lit, wood-heavy, industrial space that turns good food into a good experience.
Which is really the reason for eating out, after all.
