The Aviary Cave Bar

NOTE: The Aviary Cave Bar is now closed.

Things that are ‘a little different’ are actually extremely commonplace.

Things that are a lot different are, well …a little different.

And The Aviary Cave Bar is one of them.

Proudly labelling themselves “the quirkiest party venue in London”, they pretty much own that claim thanks to the interior: behold the cave-like bar area, where you’ll imagine you are actually in a fake limestone grotto filled with model birds, tropical plants, and an actual aquarium.

Because you are.

After that, you’ll make your way through to the other main area; the disco, complete with an illuminated dance floor from the ‘70s, next to studded red leather banquette seating from the 1870s.

The drinks menu is stuck in something of a timewarp too, with old school B52s and Kamikaze shots alongside a classic cocktail list of Martinis, mojitos, cosmos, brambles, and bellinis. If that’s not your thing, then fear not – the wine list is really quite respectable, with the bottles being a few years old being quite a good thing in this case.

As you’d expect, the venue is at its strongest when it’s hired out, and they play that hand very well: they’ll provide genuine Venetian masks, period costumes, and a free courtesy chauffeur driven car for the host to show up/leave in.

Which certainly is different.

NOTE: The Aviary Cave Bar is now permanently closed.
