Food & Drink

It knows a thing or two about getting stuffed.

A fact which only bodes well for Marylebone-based YOSMA, headed up by Hus Vedat – previously chef at 2 AA Rosette Caxton Grill and Jamie Oliver’s Barbecoa – and focusing on the three pillars of Turkish cuisine: seafood, Mangal (barbecue) and Meyhane (tavern).

Speaking of Meyhane, the space is done up just like one. In fact, with patterned terrazzo floors and the walls lined with traditional timber cabinetry, it’s as if someone’s just plucked one straight out of Istanbul and dropped it (gently) into Baker Street. There’s also an open kitchen with a Mangal grill and a Raki lounge bar, which is most likely where you’ll spend your time drinking.

What you’ll spend your time drinking:

The drinks menu includes a number of Turkish specialities: raki, otherwise known as Lion’s Milk, and Turkey’s national aperitif; cocktails (many of which are also infused with Raki) such as the Ya Sonra of raki, olive, fennel pollen and sparkling wine, the Pervane of parsley gin, pistachio and fig shrub, Raki and soda, and the Gul Pembe of pink peppercorn, rose vermouth, campari, raki, mint and cucumber dilution; Turkish wines; and beers. All of which will no doubt make you hungry for –

What you’ll spend your time eating:

The food menu is divided into cold meze, hot starters, Mangal, clay oven and sides. Fire features heavily and whole fresh fish, for example, are roasted over open fires. Other dishes include Manti, turkish dumplings stuffed with lamb neck, yoghurt sauce, chilli, oil and mint; Tarsus Kebab, hand chopped leg of lamb, burnt tomato and frigatelli pepper; Dana Kaburga, short rib of beef wrapped in caul and pickled cucumber; and Kunefe, Kadoyif (strands of filo pastry), white cheese and syrup for desert.

It’ll probably leave you pretty stuffed, too.
