5cc | Shoreditch & Exmouth Market
One thing, above all else, is crucial for the survival of any healthy relationship.
This scientific fact applies as much to those who have been married for 100 years, as it does to first time daters. Because well-meaning, and well-timed, craftiness can – if executed with sufficient forethought and creativity – transform quite normal experiences into something special.
“Got any examples of such dupery?” The Masses
By coincidence, yes.
Masterful skullduggery of this kind could, hypothetically, start by telling your date that you’ve arranged something slightly ‘alternative’ for them. Ramp up their hopes by mysteriously instructing them to meet you at a specific time and place, and then smash those hopes into a million pieces by taking them into the nearest pub for a beer.
Once inside – ideally after a couple of pints, and certainly only after their final hopes of experiencing something mildly interesting have subsided completely – go ahead and bowl the ultimate googly, by leading them through a nondescript door inside the pub towards your pre-booked table in a hidden, candlelit cocktail den serving up ‘forgotten’ cocktails…
OMG you’re so sneaky.
The den in question’s called 5cc, and two of them have just opened: one under a pub in Shoreditch, and the other above a pub in Exmouth Market.
Both are sexy, low-lit copper affairs – combining dark wood with leather and exposed brickwork – and have cocktail menus featuring 5cc’s Forgotten Range (custom mixes created from individual, self-pour vintage perfume bottles and housed in an original apothecary cabinet) alongside a strong selection of vintage liquors sourced from boutique suppliers.
And nothing says “You’d better arrange a good date for me next time” like drinking vintage liquors in a secret cocktail bar.…
NOTE: 5cc is now open: Tuesday to Sunday, from 6pm ‘til Midnight.
