One thing, above all else, is crucial for the survival of any healthy relationship.
This scientific fact applies as much to those who have been married for 100 years, as it does to first time daters. Because well-meaning, and well-timed, craftiness can – if executed with sufficient forethought and creativity – transform quite normal experiences into something special.
“Got any examples of such dupery?” The Masses
By coincidence, yes.
Masterful skullduggery of this kind could, hypothetically, start by telling your date that you’ve arranged something slightly ‘alternative’ for them. Ramp up their hopes by mysteriously instructing them to meet you at a specific time and place, and then smash those hopes into a million pieces by taking them into the nearest pub for a beer.
Once inside – ideally after a couple of pints, and certainly only after their final hopes of experiencing something mildly interesting have subsided completely – go ahead and bowl the ultimate googly, by leading them through a nondescript door inside the pub towards your pre-booked table in a hidden, candlelit cocktail den serving up ‘forgotten’ cocktails…
OMG you’re so sneaky.
The den in question’s called 5cc, and you’ll discover it under the Exmouth Arms… in Exmouth Market.
It’s a sexy, low-lit copper affair – combining dark wood with closely drawn blinds and leather chairs – and has a cocktail menu featuring both classics (Margaritas, Old Fashioneds, Espresso Martinis &c.) and 5cc signatures (like the Espadin Buck, with mezcal, lime and ginger beer).
And nothing says “You’d better arrange a good date for me next time” like drinking mezcal in a secret cocktail bar.…
NOTE: 5cc is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 6-11.30pm. You can find out more, and book a table, HERE.
