Clays have brought the big guns to Canary Wharf.
After a stellar year at their debut venue, Clays in Moorgate, they’ve reloaded with a second spot. For anyone who hasn’t had the pleasure, the general idea of the place is that it’s an activity bar where you use real – but, importantly, decommissioned – shotguns to shoot at virtual clays whizzing around a huge digital screen. It’s got everything from a tweed-clad doorman, to a lineup of shooting ‘pegs’ (private booths) with a smartly vested ‘shoot captain’ to help explain it all to you. But don’t worry, there’s enough modern design & sleek fittings to keep things from tipping into full Bertie Wooster territory.
The tech is all cutting-edge, and millimetre-precise, and somehow works accurately irrespective of the angle you’re standing at in front of the four-meter-wide screen. And, there are a whole bunch of games to chose from, too – expect everything from old-school clay shooting action (with different colours, speeds, etc.) and a peloton style bike race (the more you hit, the faster you go) to ‘Moon Shot’, which cleverly balances the action by allowing the lower-scoring players to knock the leaders off their pedestal, keeping the game constantly competitive.
The new Canary Wharf site has eight pegs, a dedicated cocktail bar, an events space and – unlike the Moorgate original – an impressive outdoor dining and drinking space, too. Speaking of which, they’ve named Jon Calabrese of ex-Hoxton Pony fame as Operations Director, meaning he’ll also be there to help curate a selection of his signature clarified cocktails, as well as a ready selection of classics too.
Which ought to keep you nicely loaded.
NOTE: Clays Canary Wharf is open now, seven days a week. You can find out more, and make a booking at their website right here.
