Eve

Eve is a sleek subterranean cocktail bar slung beneath a Michelin-starred restaurant–  Frog by Adam Handling – in Covent Garden.

So, yes, Adam has brought us Eve, and he did it with the specific intent of getting her to lead us into temptation. And frankly, we’re fine with that.

Particularly when it’s such a strikingly moody space, with patinated mirrors, religious iconography, graffiti, and moodily low lighting. Behind the wood, stone, and brass bar, the team put together an array of theatrically creative cocktails.

Their menu has been designed to take the venue’s zero-waste philosophy, and it’s being mixed up in the ‘drinks lab’ behind the bar, where the team go about taking otherwise discarded ingredients from the restaurant above, then putting them through processes like carbonation, clarification, distillation, fermentation and freezing to end up with something rather luxurious. Basically, the bar team have to adapt a lot.

The result? Some lovely drinks, including:

  • Rhubarb & Custard – made using discarded rhubarb pulp, and slow-cooking it in a blend of Boatyard vodka and Hendrick’s gin, then mixing it with homemade custard cream soda before being carbonated.
  • Connect the Scots – basically a Tunnock’s teacake in a glass, this one uses the biscuit trim and waste chocolate from the pastry kitchen, and mixes in 12YO whisky, meadowsweet and Drambuie.
  • Cherry Cola – this one uses cherries from the kitchen, along with some Coca Cola reduction, a little rum, brandy, and some Falernum.
  • From the Coast – a sea-evoking combo of oyster leaf vodka, oyster leaf syrup, botanicals, and lemon sherbet.
  • Jammy Dodger – sandwiching strawberry vermouth & sour mash whiskey with vanilla & cacao.

Of course, if you’re looking for a little ballast to go with that booze, you can score snacks from the critically acclaimed kitchen upstairs, from duck egg custard with parmesan rind to black truffle hash browns. It’s so convenient…

…you won’t Adam and Eve it.
