Galante | Argentinian Bar
If there’s one thing that cosmopolitan Argentinians take seriously, other than steak, it’s Malbec.
In Buenos Aires discerning drinkers are known to follow their favourite bartenders whenever they move bars. The most popular cocktail-shaker of them all was Santiago “Pichin” Policastro – aka El Barman Galante – who once, in listing his top tips for becoming a better bartender, noted at #42 –
“You’re a bartender. No-one says “Hey, mixologist”.
He had a point.
In Pichin’s honour, and representing the best in old school Argentinian glamour: South Kensington cocktail bar, Galante.
Bartenders in the slick Art Deco-inspired space don Pichin’s standard attire – white jacket and black bow tie – to serve up 1930s and 40s-style cocktails in vintage, crystal-cut goblets.
The comprehensive cocktail menu combines several of Pichin’s own creations with some more contemporary options, and is backed up by a menu of sharing plates that arrive on tiered silver stands.
