Juno Rooms | Cocktails in The City
Juno was the Roman goddess of marriage & love, and the deity Romans looked to for guidance regarding their own love lives.
And although we’re not saying her advice was bad per se, she did marry her own brother.
Either way, her best legacy is probably going to be her name, which graces Watling Street’s new bar and restaurant, Juno Rooms.
It’s a spacious, two-floor affair run by the people at the Urban Pubs & Bars group, who’re also responsible for the gothic bolthole, Paradise By Way of Kensal Green. Here, however, things are placed firmly in the 21st century, with botanical prints, bare concrete and gold accents happily commingling across the huge ground-floor space. There’s still a touch of that trademark eclecticism, though, in the mismatched furniture, pink neon wall light, and life-size cherry blossom tree sprawling over the front of the restaurant.
Speaking of which, there’s a wide, all-day menu taking you on a globe-spanning culinary jaunt, with dishes like chicken ramen burger; strozzapreti pasta with sage and roast squash; and crispy duck with pak choi and rice noodles filling out the mains. And thanks to its location – on a bustling City backstreet with views of St. Paul’s – it’s perfectly primed for after-work drinks. So if you’re in the market for bar snacks instead, they’ve got you covered with portobello mushroom fries, double fried chicken with sriracha ketchup, and chorizo and cheddar croquettes.
Of course to go with all that, you’ll need the drinks – which you can enjoy either propped up at the turquoise tiled bar upstairs, or in the moodier bar in the basement, kitted out with intimate banquettes, a sleek, gold-jacketed bar and a DJ booth. They’re serving up everything from craft beers and ciders to bespoke G&Ts and magnums of wine – but their pièces de résistance are the cocktails, running the gamut from Rhubarb Pisco Sours and Bergamot Mules to classics like the Aviation, Sazerac and ‘Perfect’ Manhattan.
That’s when Juno it’s gonna be good.
