Le QuecumBar | Battersea Jazz Bar
Last Updated: 2nd July 2019
Trying to find an intimate date spot in Battersea?
No need to feel in a pickle.
Head down to Le QuecumBar: a cosy, alluring, plant-filled, independently run jazz bar on Battersea High Street that takes, as its inspiration, the bohemian gypsy swing music of Django Reinhardt and the nostalgic, seductive setting of Belle Epoque Paris.
Of course, as you already know, jazz bars make the perfect date spot, because –
1) They have a timeless, ineffable air of old-school romance;
2) They require you to whisper (shout) sweet nothings directly into each other’s ears; and
3) If you time it right, the band can make everything you say sound like a witty joke. Badum-tshhh.
But Le QuecumBar has a little je ne sais quoi that makes it even more special. It could be the way the seating’s all arranged cabaret style, meaning that you’re guaranteed a romantic table for two in full view of the stage. It could be the fact that you’ll be wined and dined (tartiflette, frog’s legs, steak) with table service all night. Or it could be the little fairylit nook of a courtyard out the back, where you can escape for a little conversation over a chocolate martini before heading back into the jazz-filled fray.
The musicians gracing the stage here are some of the most talented in the country, and you can expect live music every night from around 8-11pm. While it mostly revolves around Django Reinhardt’s signature gypsy jazz style, there are Sinatra mash-ups, jazz guitar duets, and singers dressed head-to-toe in vintage garb, filling the nostalgic Parisian-style room with the sounds of Billie Holiday and Etta James.
Just be aware that on ticketed nights there is a minimum spend per person, as the ticket money goes to the performers. The owner is a spirited lady and will give you a stern talking to if you nurse one glass of wine all night.
…We don’t need telling twice.
NOTE: Le QuecumBar is open every day except Wednesday. Doors are around 6 or 7pm, and stay open till 1am on Fridays & Saturdays. You can find out more, buy tickets or book a table for dinner HERE.
