Next Door Records is a café, bar & vinyl shop that was set up by three friends with a shared love of composing & listening to music, drinking good wine, and a background in hospitality. So, in the midst of the pandemic, they decided to put their heads together and create a bricks-and-mortar spot that brought all these elements under one roof. And unsurprisingly it’s quickly become one of the neighbourhood’s most popular bars, thanks to its eclectic record selection, packed events programme, and homely, laid-back feel.
Occupying a sleeve of a space on Uxbridge Road, Next Door Records has a relaxed, industrial aesthetic. Up front is the café area and shop, with bare filament bulbs strung up across a stripped wooden ceiling, vintage fixtures for some intensive crate digging, a set of decks for the team to showcase the records, and an individual player, with headphones, for anyone wanting a more private sample session. You’ll also find a modest selection of hand-picked natural wines on sale, which, come the evening, are uncorked and served up alongside lagers on tap and guest craft brews.
That’s where the back of the bar comes in… a more intimate space, with low, tin-tiled ceilings and communal tables; this is where you can huddle together with a group of mates over a glass or two. It’s also where they host their events, from supperclubs (previous guest chefs have included Kombini Kids and Magic Momo), to wine tastings and live gigs & DJ sets (held, impressively, most nights).
You’ve got to feel for the neighbours.
