We don’t tend to make friends easily.
Even our chiropractor said he was glad to see the back of us.
But when we do, we like to take them somewhere like No 32; a convivial, all-day drinking and dining emporium perched on the fringes of Clapham Common.
Important things of note:
1) There is a roof terrace. At a dazzling one-storey high, it’s not the tallest rooftop bar in London. But it is one of the loveliest, thanks to the twinkling fairy lights, olive trees, and British weather-proof umbrellas and blankets.
2) They do food. And it covers all the bases, from brunch (feat. caramelised banana & ricotta pancakes, and creamy field mushrooms on sourdough) to Sunday lunch (roast chicken, beef or squash, with all the trimmings), with a slew of classic bistro dishes, including burgers, salads, and pasta, in between.
3) You can work there. With roaring fires, plush velvet sofas and Caravan coffee on demand, it’s like a members’ club without the fees. Plug in and plug away, knowing that you don’t have to even move seats once it’s time for post-work drinks, because –
4) It’s fun. In that while quaffing Camden Hells on draught, magnums of Champagne and Coconut Mojitos, you can bop to live DJ sets on Friday and Saturday nights, watch screenings, or hold a high-stakes tournament on the vintage foosball table.
If you’ve got enough friends, that is.
NOTE: No 32 The Old Town is open daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks, with bottomless brunch on weekends. You can find out more, and book a table, HERE.
