Rays bar.
It’s more than just a name. It’s an instruction.
And the people at Voodoo Ray’s are taking it to heart by opening their first cocktail bar. After slinging huge 22-inch pizzas by the slice (with interesting toppings like bacon dust, stilton, and salt beef) to ravenous Dalston-ites, they’ve decided to turn their basement space into a 50-seater, Tokyo-style drink joint.
The space is suitably eye-catching, with brightly coloured patterns magnified by entire mirrored disco walls. And being as all their experience has been in restaurants, they decided not to change the formula on the menu – the drinks are broken down into starters, mains, and desserts. You’ll find:
APERITIFS
The pre-drink drinks include punchy numbers like the Shady Pines (gin, Strega herb liqueur, egg white, rosemary), and the Pink Flamingo (rhubarb, Campari, Prosecco, grapefruit). Then, you can move onto the,
MAINS
Coming in bigger vessels, have a go at the Koko Kanu, pistachio, and pineapple-loaded Rio Cross, or the Tunnel Dancer (only served after midnight) with Lagavulin, bourbon, and chilli. Then, to top it all off, get,
DESSERTS
A nice sherry never hurts to cap off an evening, and theirs comes with dark rum, cacao and cream – or you can opt for the Labyrinth, whose mezcal is sweetened with a little dark chocolate, white cacao, and vermouth.
And of all of this is reminding you of a real menu a little too much, you can always order in a slice from upstairs.
