Rooftop bars are already pretty big in East London.
But this one’s Wapping.
Taking over the top three floors of an old car park down by Tobacco Docks, Skylight is a sprawling rooftop playground decked out with astroturf greenery, colourful up-cycled pergolas and festoon lighting.
And croquet lawns.
You’ll emerge at the top of the car park stairs (note: there aren’t any lifts here) to find a cosy covered area filled with plenty of tables for groups. Perfect for when the British weather threatens to – well, be itself, you can book into shuffleboard, indoor croquet or ping pong in here, or just mosey up to the street food stall to get your hands on snacks like tacos and corn ribs. It’s also where DJs take to the decks on weekend evenings.
On sunny days, head back outside and you’ll find the pétanque area. The rules are pretty simple – roll a small ball (the jack) across the sand, then duke it out to roll your slightly bigger ball as close to it as possible. Simple, until you’ve had a drink or two.
Speaking of which – head up the ramp, and you’ll come to the rooftop bar itself, with more outdoor croquet lawns, curving sofas ideal for big groups, heated & covered pergolas, and a view that’ll keep you there all night…
So don’t be surprised the next day if your voice is a bit croquet.
NOTE: Skylight is open from Thurs-Sun, 12-11pm. Entry is free, but activities must be paid for in advance – you can do that, book tables, and find out more, HERE.
ALSO NOTE: Skylight now has a sibling in Peckham, too.
