The Hoxton Hotel

Despite increasing competition from neighbouring boutique hotels, this remains – definitively – The Hoxton Hotel.

And sure, part of that’s down to some forward-thinking branding, but the other part of it’s down to the hotel’s own ineffable, enduring charm. An enormous yet cosy lounge that envelops you in its exposed brick embrace; rooms that ooze pared-back style but still thoughtfully equip you with plugs and corkscrews; and a vibrant, rotating events programme have all served to keep it a firm favourite since 2006. For night owls, there’s an unparalleled nightlife within staggering distance, while huge meeting rooms and a freelancer’s dream café area tick the working holiday box, too.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Hoxton Hotel Shoreditch…

THE LOCATION

Shoreditch guide - Hoxton Hotel

A restaurant overlooked by a cow preserved in a formaldehyde tank. A Thai canteen in a former strip pub. A hotel that has more bars than rooms. If these are the kinds of places you’d like to have as neighbours, then you’re in the right place. Because Shoreditch is London’s creative quarter, filled with flexible working spaces, boutiques and studios that feed into an equally unusual bar and restaurant scene – from rooftop wigwams to subterranean eateries. And even if you spend your whole time wishing you weren’t there, that’s ok too – because the Hoxton Hotel is a mere stroll from Old Street Station, Liverpool Street Station, and plenty of other neighbourhoods to explore on foot. THE ROOMS

This picture pretty much already tells you everything you need to know – the accommodation here is comfortable, stylish, and understated. What you can’t see, however, is the minibar, stocked with fresh milk and water, and ready to guard any supermarket-priced wines or beers you might want to stock up on at the front desk; the complimentary daily breakfast bag that’s hooked on your door every morning; the walk-in rain shower; and the free wifi and free phone calls to anywhere in the world.

Unless you can see that, in which case you should probably talk to someone.

Size-wise, they range from Shoebox to Roomy, alongside 9 uniquely designed ‘Concept’ Rooms, each created by local artists and featuring decor that’s a little different to your average.

THE FOOD & DRINK

Hoxton Hotel Shoreditch

Whatever whims your stomach might throw at you, the Hoxton Grill is ready for it. Open from 7am till late, the hardworking in-house restaurant dishes up salt beef hash and eggs for breakfast, an unparalleled £9 lunch deal with salad, soup and a sandwich, and collagen-plumped fruit juices, kombucha, and killer cocktails to enjoy by the fireside in the lounge later. And while you’d have to stay for months to run your whole way through the menu, there’s plenty nearby, too; try Popolo for Italian small plates, Smokestak for flame-licked meats, Boundary’s rooftop orangery for cocktails and views, and Nightjar for superlative drinks and nightly live jazz.

THE AMENITIES

Hoxton Hotel Shoreditch

So, they have this. It’s a secluded outdoor courtyard with a retractable roof that’s used for anything from drinks tastings to cosy al fresco film screenings. Back inside, the spacious lounge is a busy hot-desking spot by day, with wifi, plug points and sumptuous sofas; but come Friday and Saturday night, it becomes a destination bar in itself, complete with DJ. Just don’t pull too much of a late one if you want to take advantage of the in-house workshops, live music performances and regular exhibitions…

Then again… king-sized beds.

NOTE: Rooms at The Hoxton Hotel start from £99 a night. You can find out more and book on their website right HERE.
