The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town

Your expanding knowledge of the ever growing number of underground London speakeasy bars is making you more popular than ever.

Which is saying something, because everyone loves you already.

Being one of the few who knows exactly which of London’s distressed, unmarked doors can provide access to a secret, candlelit cocktail den makes you, well, desirable.

But even you can take it up a notch…

Allow us to introduce you to the ultimate London speakeasy – The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town.

Head to The Breakfast Club on Artillery Lane, just off Bishopsgate, where you’ll see a fairly normal looking Smeg fridge. Announce that you’re here to see the Mayor, take your date by the hand, open the fridge door and walk through.

Inside, and downstairs, you’ll find a moodily-lit cocktail bar that has exposed brickwork, an air of exclusivity, some great music and a selection of cocktails, craft beers and wines – like the Chiquita with whisky, Advocaat and banana; and the Sweet Spot, combining vodka with honey, orange and lavender bitters.

Being underneath The Breakfast Club, they’re naturally well placed to bus food down from the kitchens upstairs, and you can accompany your drinks with some dirty comfort food in the form of jalapeño poppers and ‘chicken in a basket’. And, at weekends, the bar opens early for bottomless brunches, with two hours of limitless bellinis, bloody maries, or cocktail specials.

That fridge is making you look pretty cool now.

NOTE: The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town is open Monday-Thursday from 5pm-12am; Friday 3pm-12am; Saturday 12pm-12am and Sunday 12pm-10.30pm. You can reserve a table, book in for brunch (£39pp) or find out more on their website HERE.
