In vino veritas. In wine, there is truth.
In vinoteca vinum. In Vinoteca, there is wine.
And in truth… there is both wine AND food inside Vinoteca’s Chiswick outpost. Celebremus!
Now your reasons for visiting are fourfold:
1) THE LOCATION
This Vinoteca has made its home on Devonshire Road, just off the bustling main drag of Chiswick High Road – making Vinoteca a convenient place to begin, or cap off, an evening that might also include feasting on some of London’s finest pizza at Napoli On The Road; watching a film in plush seating at The Chiswick Cinema; browsing second-hand gems at Foster Books; or soaking up the stately interiors of Chiswick House (a 15 minute stroll away).
2) THE AMBIENCE
As wine bars go, Vinoteca Chiswick has an exceptionally sophisticated feel. There’s space for you and 44 of your best friends here (so you’re going to have to cull some people from the invite list) with a smart lounge area at the front, decked out in pea-green tones. Or, you could just bring a date to prop up the marble-topped bar tucked away at the back, and pick out a bottle from the dozens huddled together on shelves lining the room. Low key. More your kind of style.
3) THE WINE
Vinoteca owners Brett and Charlie are the ultimate cork dorks, personally handpicking the 200+ bottles that will ultimately end up taking the long walk into one of Vinoteca’s vast cellars. You can pick out something that takes your fancy, or take a magical mystery tour by ordering a tasting flight, or picking by the glass (which miraculously starts at just over a fiver a pop).
At Chiswick the focus is on small-scale producers, and – should you find something that you particularly like – well, the bar is conveniently also a bottle shop, meaning that you can pick up a bottle or two of the good stuff to take home with you.
4) THE FOOD
With the aim of making your wine drinking session as enjoyable as possible, Vinoteca also helpfully provides ballast in the form of bar snacks like Devon crab on toast or sharing platters of cured meats and cheeses; heftier mains of roast Yorkshire chicken with pink fir potatoes or harissa aubergine with labneh and pomegranate; and even a Sunday roast of beef or pork to rival any local boozer.
Which, incidentally, is what you’re about to become.
NOTE: Vinoteca Chiswick is open Monday – Saturday. You can book a table on the Vinoteca website.
