Sunday Papers Live

Long walks.

Oversized newspapers.

Strangely arcane trading hours.

All the qualities that make up any decent Sunday. And all (but one) of which have been pulled together in the most delightfully relaxing way by Sunday Papers Live, now back after a two year hiatus.

For their 19th edition at the start of July they’ll be transforming their usual haunt – the magnificently grand Edwardian hall that is Cecil Sharp House – into a vast living room, by absolutely filling it with worn settees, oversize Chesterfields, piles of newspapers, and a hell of a lot of tea & cake. Massages are available all day. Slippers are encouraged. Napping is sacrosanct. You can bring a blanket, a pair of knitting needles, a cat – if it’s Sunday-appropriate then it’s cool. Go ahead. Make that pillow fort.

Throughout the day, you’ll then get a few performers & speakers take the small stage in the very centre of the room. And by ‘a few’, we actually mean Ed Miliband taking you through the news; performances and conversation with jazz musician Randolph Matthews; a chat with chef-writer Melissa Hemsley; authors discussing anxiety, bisexuality, motherhood and ‘squiggly’ career paths; and loooots more top-shelf triviality besides (including a comic take on the cryptic crossword with theatre collective Son & Son’s).

As mentioned, there’ll also be a roast. This will be a long table banquet catered by chef Danny Jack (Arch 537), which will include the likes of herb-stuffed chicken; golden roast potatoes; spiced red cabbage; spinach & feta filo pies; chocolate, orange and almond cake, and a loot more. And in true Sunday fashion, there are no set meal times, or reservations. Oh, and it includes London’s best Bloody Mary bar, courtesy of The Flaming Lips.

And finally, if you fancy walking it off, you can head out on one of the guided walks across Primrose Hill, led by another philosopher, thinker, or general Interesting Person.

It truly is the end of the weak.

NOTE: Sunday Papers Live #19 will take place on 3rd July 2022 at Cecil Sharp House. You can find out more, and get your tickets (£39.50 for the whole day, £20 evening only) at their website right HERE.
