Big Apple Brixton | Pop-Up Venue
The Big Apple.
It’s a wonderful town.
So the team behind this summer’s Brixton Beach Boulevard have taken its core, added back in some deliciously seedy bits (to help recreate the buzzing, gritty chaos that was late 70s New York), and planted it on a South London rooftop. It’s called Big Apple Brixton.
There’ll be plenty of themed areas to explore, including a nightclub and three indoor bars serving up seasonal cocktails. They’re all based on iconic venues of the time (like the debauched haunt of Grace Jones and Andy Warhol, Studio 54) while private hire rooms take on the guise of record stores and peep shows. There’ll be DJs day and night, whose sets will, of course, celebrate the birth of hip-hop as well as disco and funk classics.
And to give you the energy to dance your bell-bottomed bottoms off, there’ll be American street food vendors close at hand, including Mac To The Future, Burger Bear, Grandmaster Slice and Plucky’s – who will be serving up their buttermilk fried chicken with deep fried nuggets of halloumi. On Sundays, however, the venue really steps up, serving up roasts from 1pm and operating a Bloody Mary bar.
And, as is appropriate for the city that never sleeps, events continue on Mondays and Tuesdays with disco yoga sessions and hip-hop inspired exercise classes.
How do you like them apples?
