Camden Lock Night Markets
There are two main reasons why you might prefer not to do all of your Christmas shopping on Amazon this year:
1) This article which covers everything from Amazon’s tax avoidance and treatment of its employees to the systematic erosion of our High Streets and the miserably uninspiring future Britain faces if we don’t better support our local retailers. And on a lighter note…
2) The fact that finding presents in the real world is fun. It’s an opportunity to spend time exploring and uncovering unique gifts that people you care about will love (ideally in the company of friends while drinking hot cider, eating street food and listening to big name DJs).
And by a kind twist of fate – which you almost definitely didn’t see coming – the boutique Night Markets at Camden Lock, which are happening on the 12th, 13th and 14th December, offer all of the above, and more. Featuring 80 independent shops; over 250 unique stalls; thousands of quirky, alternative Christmas gifts; the opportunity to watch DJs like Norman Jay and Anna Greenwood live; and street food from around the world, the Night Markets will also have their own radio station this year (broadcasting live from 7am until late on 87.7FM and online) which’ll be covering everything that’s happening throughout the three days.
In addition you’ll find Disappearing Dining Club’s Too Much is Never Enough occupying the upper floors of a former cottage overlooking the West Yard and the lock. There, within three snug, candlelit dining rooms (spaces at which can now be reserved HERE), they’ll be serving up mulled winter cider alongside family-style servings of shareable dishes like pots of salt beef; Brick Lane smoked salmon; black bean & smoked sweetcorn ceviche; DDC Beef Stew; chocolate brownies and liquers.
Pretty sure Amazon doesn’t sell experiences like that.
