Gormley & Gamble

Gormley & Gamble | Savile Row’s Female Tailor

Introducing: Phoebe Gormley, Savile Row tailor.

You’re probably going to get on with her. After all, her clients always end up in stitches.

She’s the award-winning entrepreneur behind Gormley & Gamble; the first tailoring business catering exclusively for women in the entirety of Savile Row’s 200 year heritage.

It all (nearly didn’t) start with studying bespoke costume design at university, where after two years, she was starting to get itchy feet hands. Having interned at tailoring Valhallas Jermyn Street and Savile Row since the age of 15, she decided to take a gamble (eh..) and use her final year tuition fees to launch her own business instead. And so it was that, over the course of just one weekend in 2014, she dropped out, moved to London and joined a start-up growth programme.

Pretty standard stuff for a 21 year old, then.

Her aim is to offer women something totally different to the high street experience, creating completely bespoke garments (not just suits, but coats, dresses and shirts) that showcase three things:

THE FIT

Undoubtedly the made-to-measure aspect is the real draw here. When you step into her shop, you’ll receive a preliminary consultation with Phoebe herself before your fitting (in the company of some Charbonnel et Walker truffles and Champagne, of course). But tailoring here doesn’t just mean measurements – your lifestyle, travel routines and even body temperature will all be taken into account.

THE TECHNIQUE

Alongside expert craftsmanship earnt over years of tailoring experience, G&G make use of cutting-edge technology to er… cut edges. Laser machinery cuts faultless patterns and is less labour-intensive (which, incidentally, means less purse-intensive for you). And because they’re all about the long-term, your personal pattern will be kept on a hanger until you need it next.

THE FABRICS

…Which range from merino wool, to Scottish cashmere, to bamboo, to tweed from Chanel’s original supplier. You’ll be able to choose from thousands of swatches or request your own – and if that’s not personal enough, G&G can stitch monograms, and even collaborate with printers to customise the silk linings of your clothes, with images of anything from florals to Instagram feeds.

So you can suit yourselfie.

NOTE: G&G take consultation bookings over the phone or online, and perform fittings in house or at your office (whaduuup). Prices start at £320 but depend on customisation options.
