Cognac.

A drink so classy, it’s none other than James Bond’s personal spirit of choice…

…to set a man on fire with, in Diamonds Are Forever.

It was an ironic move, given that the French refer to Cognac as “eau de vie”.

However a far less ironic move was the decision to launch the third instalment of Cognac-laced pop up La Maison Rémy Martin, which translates from French into English as “a jaw-droppingly luxurious members’ club tucked away in the midst of Soho”, and which promises Londoners not only a new late-night drinking spot, but also a beautiful space in which to enjoy a raft of masterclasses and events from experts across different fields.

And because you’re an expert in “Getting On Down”, you’re invited to the opening night.

Make the wise decision to attend and you’ll stroll up to what is usually an independent gallery space, but what for now appears – to the unwitting public, at least – to be a boutique showcasing blends of cognac from around the world. Nice enough. But throw the doorman a knowing nod, and you’ll be hustled towards the back of the room, where, naturally, you’ll find a secret door which opens up just for you…

…and leads into a hidden bar.

Enveloped by gold, smooth tunes, conspiratorial whisperings, slick accents of glass and even slicker barkeeps shaking up cognac cocktails until midnight, your drinks here will be complemented by small plates of charcuterie, cheese and macarons… plus a large smorgasbord of talks, experiences and masterclasses hosted by creatives, culinary experts and cocktail gurus.

It’s certainly the sort of place you could easily stay in all night, but you won’t. Because there’s another intimate basement bar downstairs where you’ll be invited to sample a few more cocktails from Rémy Martin’s resident mixologists, and throw a couple of shapes on the dancefloor.

Just don’t follow Mr. Bond’s lead by throwing them at anyone.

NOTE: La Maison Rémy Martin opens on 16th February and will run for three weeks. To book a table for you and your party on the opening night, email [email protected] quoting “The Nudge”. And if you can’t make it that night, you can still become a member. Just click here to skip the traditional application process and activate your complimentary membership immediately.
