Summer Camp by At The Table | Popup Events
By Hattie Lloyd
Once upon a time, summer camp was the best way for your parents to ruin your school holiday with, ugh, more education.
But now – thanks to food-driven collective At The Table – it’s the best way to not-ruin your summer, by acing a load of new skills, and returning laden with the hand-crafted goods to prove it.
Curated by the team behind food culture festival TOAST, At The Table has been set up to explore the cultural significance of food through the work of artisans and makers from across London …or, in layman’s terms, they’re giving you the chance to make a load of totally sweet stuff inspired by food. Located in the stylish surroundings of Bethnal Green’s Town Hall Hotel, you’ll find workshops taking place throughout the summer that run the gamut from cookery, to food photography, to creating your own bespoke homeware. So, get ready to add multiple strings to your bow, as you master… (to name but a few) –
Culinary creativity, courtesy of foodies such as London Fields picklers Rawduck who will show you how to make anything from kimchi to kombucha, and Broadway Market’s Dumpling Shack who make…well, really great dumplings;
Ceramics, in which you will learn hand-building techniques from Hackney studio Turning Earth and go on to produce your own unique (read: intentionally misshapen) tableware to take home after the workshop; and
Scent making with the Experimental Perfume Club, who will induct you into the mysteries of fragrance and help you smell devastatingly good.
You’re gonna need a bigger bow.
NOTE: At The Table’s Summer Camp runs on various dates throughout August; book HERE for classes. Prices range from £40-£80, and often include free food. Which is nice.
