The Gardening Society

Mac & Wild at The Gardening Society | Oxford Street Restaurant

There are, as you well know, a million events, festivals, markets, dining experiences and pop ups happening in London over the festive period. However Mac & Wild at The Gardening Society – situated on the roof of John Lewis – is one that we’d humbly suggest you make a little time to visit, if you can.

Behold the reasons why –

1) It’s Beautiful. On arrival at the summit of Mount Lewis you’ll wander through a forest of fairy-lit fir trees, guided by hand-painted wooden signs, toward a warm, wood-decked restaurant. Through large, floor-length glass windows you’ll be able to peek inside your destination: a welcoming respite from the cold filled with large leather armchairs, tartan blankets and faux fur rugs dotted around a large open kitchen framed by foliage and fairy lights.

2) The Food’s Delicious.  On the menu you’ll find a mixture of favourites from Mac and Wild’s permanent site on Great Titchfield Street, from the ‘Veni-Moo’ burger (which includes both a beef and venison patty, cheese, caramelised onions and béarnaise sauce in a brioche bun) to the venison steak (delivered on a wooden board with the option of either béarnaise or truffle bread sauce at its side).

3) There’s Booze. There are a number of festive drinks options here which come courtesy of Background Bars, the team behind both Night Tales and FEAST. In addition to cold cocktails infused with burnt lemon, homemade pine liqueur and smoked fig, they’re also serving up a warm, mulled 8-spice Negroni which – should you really fancy embracing the season – you can wrap your hands around either under a heater or a blanket, while perched at one of the outdoor picnic tables.

4) There are a bunch of private Wendy houses dotted around the rooftop forest. Each of their distinctly Christmassey aromas are complimeted by warm cashmere, hot water bottles and private sound systems… making them the perfect location for enjoying an extra snug date night or a long drunken evening playing board games with friends. Ooh, and they also each come with a ‘hot toddy bell’ that allows you to order cocktails straight to your door.

Ding, ding.

NOTE: Mac & Wild at The Gardening Society will be open to the public from Monday 7th November until Friday 30th December. Bookings for lodges and the restaurant are now live, with spaces reserved for walk-ins too.

ALSO NOTE: From the 1st December, customers will also be able to buy their Christmas tree from the rooftop tree lot.
