The Clove Club, having won two Michelin Stars and a seemingly perpetual spot on the World’s 50 Best list (frequently as the UK’s highest entry), makes it easily one of London’s best restaurants. And one of London’s most expensive. And hard to get into. Such is the way of the culinary elite.
So when its chef/owner Isaac McHale announces that he’s going to open a new restaurant nearby in Shoreditch, only it’s going to be way more affordable and accessible, it’s worth paying attention. Because that’s the plan for Bar Valette, set to open on Kingsland Road at the end of January.
It should be noted that Isaac McHale kind of already tried this with his restaurant Two Lights. In fact, Bar Valette will be opening in the very same space. But second time is, as they say, the charm (right?). And this time around the focus is firmly on comfort food.
The head chef will be being pulled in from the Clove Club (Erin Jackson Yates), and they’ll be using the same suppliers as at the Clove Club, and there’ll even be some direct crossover of dishes too, with the famed buttermilk fried chicken with pine salt making a welcome appearance. Other than that, we can expect a lineup of European style menu-fillers, designed to evoke the memory of being on holiday in Spain or France.
Looking forward to it?

NOTE: Bar Valette is set to open on 25th January 2025. We’ll be back then with the full scoop. In the meantime, you can take a look at their (not particularly active) Insta page.
