The Meat Up Menu | Butler’s Wharf Chop House
The menu options at the Butler’s Wharf Chophouse have been considerably beefed up.
For those who haven’t been, it’s the chophouse at Butler’s Wharf, sitting by the riverside (literally, you can’t get much closer to the water without getting wet) at the foot of Tower Bridge. Inside, the space boasts a kind of log cabin charm, with wooden floors, furnishings, and ceiling. And being called a chophouse, you’d be forgiven for expecting it to already be relatively protein-heavy. Well, this is something else.
Welcome to The Meat Up Menu.
It’s a carnival of cow-candy, consisting of four courses all focused on a different cut of the animal. Here’s what you can expect:
The first course will come out, escorted by the chef himself, who’ll take you thought it all. It’s a Chophouse steak tartar, made with pickled shallots, grated horseradish, a little chilli oil, and some smoked Applewood cheese, and it’s all mixed in front you, and according to your taste. Next, there’s a kind of double-course, consisting of both bone marrow & parsley on toast (an homage to the St John classic), and some devilled kidneys with a sherry and mustard vinaigrette. Then comes the showstopper: 550g of Chateaubriand served with triple cooked chips, seasonal greens, and a red wine & bone marrow gravy.
Finally, to top it all off, you’ll get some West Sussex Pond Pudding – something of a forgotten classic – made of pastry and filled with butter, lemon and sugar.
The whole thing is wine-paired, with each glass matching up perfectly with each course, and running the gamut of challenging new world, classic old world, and even some English varietals. And ironically…
…you won’t have a beef with any of them.
NOTE: The Meat Up Menu is available now at the Butler’s Wharf Chophouse at £150 for two people, including wine pairings. You can make a booking, and find out more right HERE.
