Exclusive Previews At Kricket Shoreditch

Excellent news: the team at Kricket are about to open their fourth site, this time over in Shoreditch. Although on the downside, we’ve basically run out of fresh cricket-related puns to open with, and frankly we’re stumped.

But the fact is the Kricket team are doing something very very right. Their innovative & widely acclaimed modern Indian concept has grown from a fledgling pop up in a shipping container to a mini empire of some of the city’s hottest bars & restaurants in a few short years, and it’s largely thanks to the fact that they somehow balance the delicate trifecta of delicious, deeply considered food; disarmingly clever cocktails; and effortlessly cool spaces (that, we suspect, actually took a lot of effort).

Now, they’re hitting Shoreditch with a huge and stunning new space – and Nudge Members are going to get in before anyone else, with two exclusive preview nights on 28th February & 1st March, with a tidy 50% off the food bill.

So what to expect? Well, you’ll find it when it opens on Charlotte Road, and if you know Shoreditch, you know this is one of those so-thin-it’s-almost–an-alley-type passages tucked just off Great Eastern Street. The building itself is full of natural gifts: high ceilings, steel pillars, the kind of abundant light that’s wasted on offices, and parquet floors laid in that satisfying vintage herringbone pattern that improves everything it anchors itself under.

The plans are to dress it up in its own distinctive style, draping the glass ceiling with a translucent, textured fabric to create a diffused lighting effect and add a dreamy & ethereal quality to the room, and the open layout will have a few subtle partitions thrown in to create balance of intimacy and atmosphere.

Now, the food. Kricket’s greatest hits—crispy samphire pakoras draped in tamarind, the cult-classic Keralan fried chicken with curry leaf mayo—will of course be present and accounted for. But there’s also a promise of new dishes, currently under wraps, which leaves one to imagine what other delightful acts of culinary mischief they might pull off.

The venue has a pretty beautiful horseshoe bar in it too, which will be involve the likes of the Dhuarita (which blends tequila, pomegranate, jaggery & rose) or the vodka-laced Aam Standard, which involves mango, cardamom, and something called oxymel, an ancient honey-and-vinegar concoction that feels suspiciously like it might have actual restorative powers.

Sounds like it’ll be another good innings.
