Lima is moving to Shoreditch.
Not the actual Peruvian capital, we should add. The paperwork would be a nightmare.
We’re talking about the third incarnation of London’s colourful Peruvian eatery, which made history in 2014 as the first Peruvian restaurant in Europe to win a Michelin star – and that’s kind of bonkers, given that the country itself has some of the most accolade-laden eateries in the world. The cuisine just seems to hoover up acclaim. And after garnering plenty of praise for LIMA FITZROVIA and LIMA CANTINA, brothers Gabriel & José Luís Gonzalez are about to head east for the first time – and Nudge Members are getting in there before anyone else, with two exclusive preview nights on 30th September & 1st October, with 50% off the food bill to boot.
You’ll find LIMA SHOREDITCH sitting pretty in the Sun Street Hotel, a boutique hotel tucked away in a courtyard bordering Shoreditch and The City. And as soon as you step in, you’ll immediately recognise it as belonging to the LIMA family thanks to the eye-catching cascade of colourful fringing suspended from the ceiling.
The menu, too, will carry all of executive chef Roberto Sihuay’s signature flair and colour. Peru harbours a unique melting pot of cultures, with long-established strands of culinary fusion in the form of Nikkei (Japanese) and Chifa (Chinese) cuisine. Here, you’ll get to try globe-straddling dishes like Peking Duck croqueta draped in an aji Amarillo bèchamel, and gambas & bluefin tuna tiraditos with zingy rocotto tiger’s milk and avocado. Then, of course, there’ll be all the classic Peruvian dishes that have made LIMA’s other two spots so popular: eye-poppingly colourful ceviche, tender grilled meats, and moreish alfajores (a kind of traditional, melt-in-the-mouth shortbread) with dulce de leche for dessert.
There’ll also be a slim bar lining one side of the intimate dining room, where the ‘tenders will be shaking up LIMA’s famously good takes on the country’s national cocktail, the Pisco sour.
And trust us, it’ll leave a good taste in your mouth.
