Angelina is an Italian-Japanese fusion restaurant. And yes, while that may conjure up terrifying visions of sushi bolognese or wasabi carbonara, it’s actually really really good. In fact, it’s one of the best restaurants in Dalston.
So it’s a spot of good news that, having nestled into and taken ownership of their unique culinary niche, they’re now trying something new: supperclubs.
The first will be a floating pop up aboard a beautiful private dining barge moored up in Paddington for just a couple of days this month. The space has a blend of minimalist Scandinavian and cozy, refined cabin vibes. Picture a lot of clean lines and earthy, natural tones. But, you know, floating.
Founder Joshua Owens-Baigler and executive chef Usman Haider will be taking the tiny kitchen, and cooking up a 9-course tasting menu that showcases the ‘best of British seafood’. They’re partnering up with supplier Flying Fish Seafoods to lay out a feast of all manner of Cornish swimmers, including some newly resurgent sustainable British blue fin tuna. The whole menu includes:
- Scallop sashimi with foraged sea truffle & truffle soy
- Focaccia with squid sausage, blue fin tuna, nduja & pickles
- Puntarelle alla Romana salad with Cornish sardines
- Milk buns stuffed with blue fin tuna tartare & lardo di colonata
- Sweetbread karaage with blue fin otoro, a5 kagoshima wagyu beef & black truffle
- Crab & mascarpone raviolo with soy cured egg yolk & lobster bisque butter
- Cornish monkfish with uni butter and keta caviar
- Miyagawa sorbet & candied nori 36 month aged parmesan panna cotta, compressed nashi pear & caviar
There’ll be an optional wine pairing to go with all of this packed out with Italy’s indigenous varieties, including an aperitif of Angelina’s private label sparkling wine. It’ll only be around for four days, so catch it while you can.
NOTE: Angelina Sull’Acqua takes place on 13th-16th November, at The Boathouse in Paddington Basin. Tickets cost £89 and can be purchased at the booking link.
