Giant Steps

Giant Steps.

Sadly, it’s not a freakishly large tribute band.

But it will still bring you an equal amount of musical joy. You see, Giant Steps is in fact a collaboration between Brilliant Corners (the Dalston bar/resto) and the Analogue Foundation (international supporters of analogue sound & processes), setting up shop at Hackney Wick until October 2019.

You’ll find it at Swan Wharf; a 20,000 square ft. canal-side Victorian warehouse complex. You can bop to DJ sets beneath illuminated moons, suspended from the ceiling of their a huge indoor music venue, or head out to the 500-person waterside terrace, where you’ll find live jazz performances, a pop up restaurant, a bar, and an outdoor cinema. Here’s how it all breaks down:

THE DRINK

Giant Steps Hackney

Brilliant Corners run the bar, serving natural wines (including a few amber-coloured ‘skin contact’ numbers), craft beer and classic cocktails, from Tommy’s Margaritas to Espresso Martinis.

THE FOOD

Currently manning the pans is street food outfit Dhaba, who use British seasonal produce to create new takes on traditional Indian recipes. And it’s delicious. You can expect the likes of tandoori chicken with with tarka potatoes and rhubarb chutney; and charred hispi cabbage with Punjabi chickpeas, served up every Friday night and all weekend.

THE MUSIC

Giant Steps

Weekends are packed with live music and/or DJ sets spinning an eclectic array of vinyl. In keeping with their analogue-driven principles, the equipment will be a mix of new and vintage, with some of the speaker systems having been made over 60 years ago. But don’t worry…

…they don’t sound that old.
