If you’ve never been to Hackney Bridge, you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s a bridge.
But it’s not.
What it is is a wonderful community hub of street food stalls, bars, independent retailers and events spaces, bringing them all together like a kind of symbolic, er …bridge.
And the latest connection they’ve forged is a partnership with the good folk over at Two Tribes brewery, who’ve settled into their own, huge, fairy-lit, festival-style winter beer garden, for top-shelf booze, and excellent BBQ feasts fresh from the open-flame grill.
The plan is for them to stick around until the end of the year, and if you head along you’ll get to soak up the glossy, canal-side views while sheltered under their huge bell tent, and warming yourself on one of the multiple open fire pits dotted around. It’s all quite gorgeously rustic with earth underfoot, trees surrounding you, and the sound of the canal mere yards away.
On the food menu, they’re rustling up flame-licked fishes like bavette steak with chimichurri and BBQ potatoes; grilled plantain and bell pepper skewers; and oyster mushroom tacos with Thai slaw, charred salsa and onion pickle. The drinks, meanwhile, all come courtesy of Two Tribes (obviously) who’re putting on a tap list repping a range of bright and sessionable ales and lagers, all brewed at their home over in King’s Cross.
To give this whole affair a suitable soundtrack, they’ve also added a DJ booth, and are handing over the keys to a parade of emerging London DJs from Voices Radio. In fact, the founder of Two Tribes used to be a DJ & producer himself, so this is more than just lip service, they’re taking the music seriously. Voices Radio is a community radio station based in King’s Cross which Two Tribes have been supporting closely over the last year.
And finally, if you head down on a Sunday? You can get a BBQ Sunday roast.
Which should bridge the gap until next week.
NOTE: Hackney Bridge X Two Tribes is open now, Thursday to Sunday. You can make a booking and find out more at their website right here.
