310 Portobello | Notting Hill Pub with Food by Straker’s
Let’s address 310 Portobello Road.
Set on a corner where Portobello Road meets Golborne Road, this handsome Victorian building was formerly a branch of Pizza East. Over the summer, however, a couple of exciting new tenants moved into the empty space: local pub The Pelican and hyped Golborne Rd restaurant Straker’s. The two banded together for a summer pop-up of flatbreads and frozen margs, and it turned out to be so popular that they’re sticking around for the winter, too.
The Pelican, located just around the corner, is a Bib Gourmand-winning gastropub, while Straker’s is the first permanent venue from Thomas Straker – a TikTok famous chef (who also worked at Dinner by Heston and Elystan Street). They were both right up there in the pecking order for the best new restaurants to come out of 2022, so if you haven’t been down to either yet, consider this an easy win for your bingo card.
310 Portobello’s menu is printed on a one-page piece of paper, and, like The Pelican, has a modern, seasonal gastropub-like feel. There’s pig’s head croquettes, and Cornish mussels with ‘nduja butter; red mullet crudo or burrata with roasted figs; hearty mains like a 500g bone-in sirloin or chicken schnitzel with romaine lettuce & anchovy dressing; and of course a couple of Straker’s famed flatbreads.
On Sundays the pub opens at noon for Bloody Maries and Sunday roasts with some impressively crisp roasties, before the weekly pub quiz kicks off at 5pm.
NOTE: 310 Portobello is open Weds (5-11pm) & Thurs-Sun (12pm-midnight, 6pm Sun). You can book a table, and find out more, HERE.
