Andina | Shoreditch Restaurant
In thumbing through your Bucket List of dreams and ambitions – which, yes, we have access to – we stumbled across an entry that involved you soaking up the majesty of Machu Picchu and taking a boat ride on “Lake Titicaca” *snigger* as part of a once-in-a-lifetime voyage to the wondrous Peru.
And because it’s Christmas, we took a vote and decided to make your wish come true by sending you there – all expenses paid! But it turned out that was going to be really expensive, so we’ve instead done the next best thing and brought Peru to you – in the form of brand new Peruvian picanteria, Andina.
So, yeah. Happy Christmas.
The creation of Martin Morales (founder of Ceviche in Soho), Andina’s inspired by the picanterias that pepper the Andes: local, traditional restaurants serving up healthy Peruvian fare in the sort of rustic Andean homes that have inspired the cosy interiors at this place.
Inca-hoots with head chef Tomasz Baranski, Morales has created an all-day menu that includes Andina’s own Peruvian coffee blend with kiwicha porridge and chicharron rolls for breakfast and – from 12pm ‘til late – a main menu made up of Peruvian dishes like quinoa burgers; ceviche; a crispy chicken casserole known as Aji De Gallina and a Pachamanca-style 240g T-bone steak that’s marinated for 24 hours before grilling. For dessert: dulce de leche with pecan ice cream and Mousse De Lucuma (a combination of Andean lucuma fruit, quinoa biscuit and amarillo chilli).
But there’s more… because downstairs you’ll also find a moody, subterranean Ceviche Bar and ‘Young British Foodie’ finalist Miguel Arbe serving up Peruvian cocktails from behind Andina’s dedicated Pisco & Chicha Bar.
“Lake Titicaca”. Pffftttthhh.
NOTE: Andina is now open weekdays 8am-11pm, and weekends 10am-11pm. You can book a table on their website right here.
