Annie’s | Brunch in Barnes & Chiswick
Last Updated: 11th July 2019
For hundreds of years, scientists puzzled over finding a way to eat eggs at all hours of the day.
And then they cracked it.
The problem now, of course, is that so many places now serve brunch that it’s difficult to decide where to go… unless you live in Barnes or Chiswick, in which case the answer is Annie’s.
As you’d expect from the name, these restaurants have a local, independent feel, so don’t expect the usual Shoreditch-style industrial interiors. Inside, you’ll find a cosy, unpretentious mix of chintzy wallpaper, rococo furnishings and chubby cherubs dangling off gilded mirrors. And in the warmer months, you’ll want to take advantage of the awning-covered tables at Chiswick, and the teensy back courtyard in Barnes.
Lunch and dinner is a cosy, candlelit affair at Annie’s, with dishes spanning the globe. There’s sticky pork belly and butter chicken curry; homely fish pie; steak and mezze boards to share. But it’s the brunch that you should come for, served with breakfast martinis, Bloody Maries, and a pile of Sunday papers for you to work your way through.
Dishes include a smoky, delicately spiced shakshouka served with a cooling dollop of Greek yoghurt; eggs benedict with crab and avocado; buttermilk pancakes loaded with fresh strawberries, maple syrup and pistachio; and Annie’s Full Monty, with mushroom, eggs, sausage, beans, bacon, tomato, ‘home fries’, black pudding, and a crusty hunk of toasted sourdough.
Which is really pretty sweet.
