Kebabs take a lot of stick.
But recently, thanks to places like Le Bab, we’ve finally seen this noble dish get the credit it so truly deserves.
And Bababoom is here to help. The Battersea Rise-based charcoal kebab restaurant serves up Middle Eastern flavours whilst championing local British produce, and although they do serve kebabs (the good and highly superior kind) late on a Friday night, it’s anything but a greasy spoon.
With Brooklyn-esque exposed brick walls, bench seating and an open kitchen, the Mangal grill takes centre stage while the frozen margarita and Caravan Coffee dispensers take up the drinks area. Here’s what the menu holds:
You can choose from the classic Rotisserie Lamb Shoulder with pomegranate onions or Broad Bean Falafel with Baba’s hummus, or take the more adventurous options of Saffron & Orange Chicken Shish, or Short Rib Andana with dates and pistachio. All are served on flatbread or fattoush salad.
The Good Morning Kebabs are perhaps the highlight of the menu. The meaty option combines merguez sausage, date-glazed bacon (repeat: date-glazed bacon), grilled tomato, fried eggs, harissa and labneh for an inventive Middle Eastern take on a full English. There’s also the Harissa Scrambled Eggs with smoked mackerel and summer greens, but for a sweet alternative, Baba’s Eggy Bread comes complete with clotted cream, honeycomb, Nutella and caramelised banana.
It’s not just the mains that get the grill treatment, Toasted Boom! Mallows come served with peach melba with serious campfire vibes, or for chocolate lovers there’s the Chocolate Cardamom Bowl finished with yoghurt and honeycomb.
