Blixen | Spitalfields Restaurant & Bar
Starting your day with a hearty breakfast. Important.
Finishing your day with classic cocktails, wine and modern European cuisine in a grand, bi-level brasserie and bar occupying the foyer and subterranean vault of what used to be a London bank. Also important.
And you can now do both of these things at Blixen, a place which sounds like it should be dragging Santa’s sleigh through the sky on Christmas Eve but is actually a stately, high-ceilinged, light-filled eating house which borders Old Spitalfields Market… making it the perfect place in which to charge your worn out batteries after (or before) perusing the fashion, arts and retail offerings of East London.
If you were to demand a one word description of this place, then we’d say “it’s a good bet, at any time of day“. Because you can’t tell us what to do.
However if you were to kindly request a seventy-nine word description of it, then we’d happily reply with “a friendly and laid-back brasserie combining a bustling open kitchen (serving treats like toasted banana bread with whipped butter; blueberry pancakes; banana and caramel pudding; duck egg croque madames; and, you know, other brasserie-type stuff) with a terrazzo-tiled floor, mid-century furniture, baby blue banquettes, a long walnut cocktail bar for pre-dinner tipples, a covered terrace and Mariachi Manhattans served in an intimate, underground cocktail bar which used to be the old bank’s vault”.
Sounds like a grrreat place for a lock in.
NOTE: Blixen is open daily for brunch, lunch and dinner (closing at 6pm on Sundays). You can reserve a table right HERE.
