Boxcar Bar & Grill

Boxcar Bar & Grill has reopened after a total overhaul – and it looks like it’s already on the right tracks.

It’s an airy, bi-level space occupying a terraced Marylebone townhouse, that raids the best cuts from its sibling deli round the corner to serve up tasty grub made from top-notch, ethically sourced, all-British meat.

Spread over both floors with an al fresco patio and a basement level that doubles as a private dining room, it’s an expansive space decked out with exposed natural wood, copper accents and slate grey tiling in a throwback to traditional British butchers. Here they’re serving up a simple menu of classics slung over the charcoal grill. Pretty much everything gets a lick of flame, from the grilled sourdough with maple & garlic butter; to the mysteriously-named ironbark pumpkin with charred beets and ex-dairy cow beef burger with skin-on chips. Then there’s the butchers’ cuts – rib-eye, porterhouse, côte de boeuf and Chateaubriand steaks – served to share with sides of honey-roasted root veg; truffled fries and a perky tomato & shallot salad.

As for the bar part of the equation, there’s a tidy selection of cocktails with a gentle twist, from the Walnut Old Fashioned to the Umami Martini with Japanese bitters. You’ll also find a trio of beers on draught, and a modest, Old World-leaning wine list to explore.

If you fancy going off the rails.

NOTE: Boxcar Bar & Grill is open Tues-Sat from 12pm-11pm. You can find out more, and check out their website right HERE.
